What sort of product do we build in the area?

Barratt Developments have two divisional offices in the North West, Barratt Manchester and David Wilson Homes North West. Between them they provide a range of homes from 1 and 2 bedroomed apartments, to 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroomed houses, whether they are mews, semi-detached, town houses or large executive detached properties.

What types of customer tends to buy here?

Our homes attract a wide variety of people all over the region, whether that is first time buyers, young professionals, growing families or older downsizers. The two divisions offer properties in both rural and urban locations to the meet the needs of the diverse population.

What makes the area exciting as a place to work?

The North West is a fantastic place to work. With two divisional offices offering a wide variety of product, no two developments are the same. Working in the North West gives you the opportunity to work on a great range of sites throughout all the counties that make up the region. One day you could be working on an urban site of apartment blocks and the next on an exclusive country development with large executive homes. It’s great to see a development come together and create a little community of its own.

Why is it great to live in the area?

From Cumbria and Lancashire through to Cheshire and Greater Manchester, the North West has a lot to offer. Whether you prefer the city lifestyle or something a little slower paced, there is something for everybody. Home to Manchester and Liverpool, both cities boast a fantastic social scene and are bursting with culture – Liverpool was crowned the European Capital of Culture in 2008. If you’re looking for something a little more low key, the likes of Chester, Southport and Blackpool are all worth a visit. There are some fantastic towns and villages to spend your weekends discovering.

The North West is very well connected, enabling you to travel round the region with ease, whether by train or road. Going a little further afield, you can access many other major cities such as Birmingham, Leeds and London in around 2 hours by train. And with two international airports, a weekend in Europe isn’t out of the question



What social events / activities are in the local area?

Both Manchester and Liverpool have a great social scene, with an endless list of bars and restaurants to choose from, perfect for socialising with friends after a busy day in the office! With some of the best shopping in the country, the Trafford Centre, Manchester Arndale and Liverpool One can provide all the shops you need. The region is bursting with arenas and theatres ensuring the North West regularly sees the big names in music and musicals fresh from the West End. For something a little more low key, there are some fantastic small venues where you can be the first to spot some of the North West’s rising talent. There are also several music festivals held in the region, from Parklife in Manchester to Creamfields in Cheshire.

The North West is home to some of the best football teams in Europe and many Premiership and Championship teams, and regularly sees local derby’s across the region, a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. There are also several racecourses, with the Grand National at Aintree Racecourse and regular events at Chester Racecourse. The North West also has some fantastic golf courses, with The Open often held in the region. If you’re looking to stretch your legs, the Lake District and the Peak District are easy to access from wherever you’re based in the region. Whether you prefer a good long hike or a canoe on the lake, there’s plenty to keep you busy and fit!

Why should a graduate or undergraduate consider being based here?

There are so many reasons why you should consider being based in the North West. Not only are the North West divisions great places to work, with exciting opportunities for career progression, but being able to live in this fantastic part of the country is even better.

Many people believe London is the place to be after graduating however by living in Manchester or Liverpool, you can have the city lifestyle without that London price tag. A much more affordable standard of living, cheaper rent and lower day-to-day expenses all help to provide the perfect platform for a career in your chosen discipline. With many big companies making the move to the North, the region is fast becoming THE place to be. Media City in Salford has welcomed many more young professionals to the area, providing the opportunity to meet a diverse range of ambitious, likeminded people.
