What sort of product do we build in the area?
Ward Homes based in Kent construct detached and semi-detached houses under the Barratt, David Wilson and Ward Homes brands. A small number of apartments are also constructed each year. Both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes have a strong presence in the South Coast with developments across Dorset, Hampshire, West Sussex, and the Isle of Wight. These can range from 1 and 2 bedroom apartments on the Isle of Wight to 2, 3, 4, and 5 bedroom homes in Hampshire and West Sussex.
What types of customers tends to buy here?
With Kent being such a diverse county, it appeals to a variety of customers. Many residents in particular commute to work in London due to Kent’s fantastic transport links. Most notably HS1 allows for high speed rail into London, whilst motorway connections are also good. Additionally the presence of reputable schools appeals to various customers purchasing family homes. Furthermore, the emergence of newly created towns is exciting for new working professionals. Towns such as Ebsfleet where Ward Homes will be building the first phase of homes is a newly created town with fantastic amenities and transport links nearby. Barratt in the South Coast has a similarly diverse customer base including cash buyers, first time buyers, and investors.
What makes the area exciting as a place to work?
Many people are able to commute both in and out of Kent to work due to the fantastic travel links available. Dual and triple branding of Barratt divisions in the South Coast and Kent means there will be a variety of houses and flats to work on in an equally wide variety of areas. It is exciting being able to work on such a variety of projects as you will often have to engage with and appeal to many different types of people.
Why is it great to live in the area?
Ward Homes is located within a vibrant community with plenty to offer. Local residents are very friendly and welcoming and as a result there is a strong community feel that will make new residents feel safe and at ease. The area is also home to the Ebsfleet HS1 station which provides quick and easy access to national and international transport hubs in London and Paris. Southampton City Centre offers a fantastic nightlife scene due to its proximity to two major Universities. Southampton is also within easy reach of popular towns such as Bournemouth, Portsmouth, and Winchester so there is always something to do.
What social events/activities are there in the local area?
Bluewater and McArthurGlen shopping centres are located in nearby Greenhithe and Ashford, less than an hour’s drive from Ward Homes. These shopping centres feature an extensive range of designer outlets, cinemas, and eateries.
If you enjoy taking part in sports, Ward Homes holds occasional cricket and football matches. This is a great way to get to know colleagues outside of work and keep active. There is also an annual triathlon held at nearby Hever castle. This nationally televised event is the third largest triathlon in the country and there is prize money to be won for the winners and medals for all participants. There are a variety of other events running throughout the year in Kent ranging from food and drink festivals, to heritage and cultural events. The Southampton Parkrun is a free 5km run that takes place every Saturday; athletes of all abilities are welcome to take part.
Southampton hosts many maritime events such as the Southampton Boat Show. There is also the opportunity to explore the town more during the many summer festivals that take place.
